Here are 2 new compositions from an album which has been released for a limited time on Meistero Music Productions. 'Fire Horizon' is a musical remembrance of the 2017 Thomas Fire in Ventura County. The overly hot Santa Ana winds of climate change and a dry winter fueled a firestorm that created its own weather in some places. So many lives were lost and homes destroyed. I saw the fire when driving down the Conejo Pass, on the horizon. While we were safe in Oxnard, this was too close for comfort.
'New York Seeds' is an optimistic and energetic studio orchestra piece with improvised piano and percussion. I say there is room for optimism when you hear of so many new gardens (often on roofs) and green places being planted in Manhattan itself. Now this is one good way to combat climate change in a small (but big) way...this music hopefully portrays a bit of hope and energy.
This new CD/streaming album is entitled 'When The Cup Is Lifted'. The titled is indeed lifted...from a poem by the great Los Angeles poet Mandy Kahn, who inspired another piece on the album. I always hope people with different viewpoints can hang out together ('or surely we will hang separately'-remember the guy who said that, Benny Franklin?). One of the best ways is to break bread together, and lift cups together...
